One of the most frequently asked questions when booking a cruise, especially for those looking to enjoy the ship’s vibrant bar scene, is precisely what the cruise drinks plan covers. This is a critical factor for many travelers, and I’m here to shed light on how it works aboard the Sky Princess.

Typically, during influencer trips, most expenses (within reason) are covered to allow us to fully experience and review various aspects of the ship. My initial experience on the Sky Princess was part of a “shakedown” cruise—a special sailing for Princess Cruises employees, travel agents, press, influencers, and loyal cruisers. This part of my trip operated under that hosted model, enabling me to explore and share what I loved.

However, for the second leg of my trip, my husband and I booked and paid for it ourselves, celebrating our 10-year anniversary. Princess generously provided some onboard spending credit, which we specifically used to purchase beverage plans. This allowed us to gain firsthand insight into how well these plans functioned for regular paying guests, without the special considerations of an influencer group. We were keen to discover what treatments and specials we would have access to, and crucially, what expenses our purchased drinks plan would cover.

I am delighted to report that the drinks plan provided us with just as much freedom and enjoyment. We genuinely didn’t perceive any limitations on what we wished to order based on what was included in our Premium Beverages Plan on the Sky Princess. This meant we could truly explore the diverse menus of each bar without constantly checking for exclusions.

The Premium Alcohol and Drinks plan is quite generous, granting guests up to 15 drinks per day. Even with our enthusiastic approach to sampling various concoctions, we never came close to reaching that daily limit. This comprehensive plan includes specialty coffees, a wide range of soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages priced at $12 and under. It covers the vast majority of options across almost all bars and lounges.

We rarely encountered something on the menu that wasn’t covered. While there are a few ultra-luxury champagnes, premium red wines, and some ultra-top-shelf spirits that fall outside the plan’s scope, the overwhelming majority of menu items at every bar were fully included. This allowed us to experiment and enjoy a fantastic array of beverages without hesitation. In essence, we found that the plan didn’t alter our usual bar habits from one cruise to the next, with only one minor exception that we discovered.

The primary exception we encountered regarding the beverage plan was at the Wakeview Bar, specifically their delightful new carafe cocktails. These larger-format drinks, designed to be shared amongst friends, are not covered by the standard Premium Beverages Plan. However, this is a minor detail, easily managed by simply splitting the cost with your companions, ensuring your wallet doesn’t take a significant hit while you enjoy a shared experience.

Beyond this, the vast majority of individual mixed drinks and craft cocktails across the ship were indeed fully covered by the plan. What’s more, we discovered an excellent additional perk: when dining in the main dining room and wishing to enjoy a bottle of wine with our meal, our beverage plan provided a generous 25% discount. This made many of the lovely, reasonably priced bottles on the wine list an even better value.

While we could have opted for individual glasses of wine covered by our plan, the significant discount on a full bottle in the dining room felt like a worthwhile indulgence, enhancing our anniversary dinners. It’s important to remember that menus and prices are subject to change, so always confirm what is included or excluded in your Premium Drinks Package directly when booking or upon boarding the ship to be absolutely certain.
