My friend and I opted for a taxi, however, due to some personal discomfort, which made the short drive a welcome relief.

Tacos Gardenias is a true hidden gem, easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully. Tucked away in a quieter area slightly off the main tourist path, its unassuming exterior—reminiscent of a simple garage—belies the culinary treasures within. Even our taxi driver initially drove past it, a testament to its modest facade. But don’t let its humble appearance fool you; this is where the magic happens.

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by an incredibly nice and helpful staff who are eager to guide you through their menu. The service is remarkably quick, ensuring you won’t spend precious shore time waiting. And then, there are the tacos. Oh, THE TACOS! I can honestly say that I could move into Tacos Gardenias tomorrow and live out my days as a happy woman. These are, without a doubt, some of the best tacos I’ve ever had.

Each bite is a symphony of flavors. The meat tacos, like the carnitas and barbacoa, are smoky, rich, and incredibly tender, bursting with savory goodness. But the real revelation was the vegetarian cactus tacos—tangy and fresh, with a subtle hint of smoky charring that adds a unique depth. Don’t leave without trying these must-have items: the refreshing cactus, crispy chicharrones, succulent carnitas, and flavorful barbacoa. And for an appetizer, the Shishito Pepper dish is an absolute MUST. It’s an experience that truly defines authentic Mexican street food at its finest.

Cabo Coffee Co.: Aromatic Excellence

Mexico is celebrated globally for its rich coffee culture, largely thanks to the exceptional single-origin beans cultivated on its fertile farms. So, upon disembarking the Ruby Princess in Cabo, my immediate priority was to find an outstanding cup of coffee. I wanted something beyond the familiar, something truly representative of Mexico’s renowned coffee heritage.

I approached a local shop owner, seeking her advice on where to find “the best REAL coffee.” When she initially pointed towards a well-known chain in the next building, I clarified, “No, no… I mean like the best authentic, local coffee.” (No offense to Starbucks lovers—I enjoy their offerings too, but I find their standard beans can be a bit bitter unless served in a sweetened drink.) Her eyes lit up, and she excitedly declared, “Oh! Yes, well, you’re about to have the BEST cup ever then!” She quickly gave me precise directions to Cabo Coffee Company, a local favorite.

And she was absolutely right. The experience was transformative. Feeling quite fatigued from travel, I ordered a “black-eye”—a robust drink consisting of two shots of espresso with hot water, known for its strong caffeine kick. Often, black-eyes can be overwhelmingly bitter, but Cabo Coffee Company’s espresso was a revelation. It was incredibly rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, requiring no sweetener or milk to temper its exquisite flavor. It was, in a word, perfection. I still kick myself for not buying a bag of their beans to bring home; the memory of that perfect cup lingers!

Senor Sweets: Unexpected Delights and Refreshing Treats

Strategically located right in the mall off the harbor, Senor Sweets might seem like a typical commercial eatery. However, its prime location should not deter you, as the food—and especially the unique combinations—are truly amazing. This spot offers a fantastic reprieve and a delightful culinary surprise during your Cabo shore visit.

My friend Sandra and I initially headed to Senor Sweets with one goal in mind: indulging in some exquisite gelato. But fate, and a fortuitous meeting with Julie from Little Kitchen, led us down a different, equally delicious path. Julie had ordered their shrimp pizza, and despite the conventional wisdom that cheese and seafood shouldn’t mix, we were persuaded to sample it. And trust me on this one—it was HEAVENLY! The pizza was rich and full of flavor, generously topped with grilled and perfectly blackened shrimp that avoided being overly sweet. It was an unexpected fusion that simply worked, proving that some culinary rules are made to be broken.

We settled in, enjoying refreshing daiquiris and savoring every bite of that incredible pizza. By the time we were finished, I found myself delightfully full, with no room left for gelato. However, I did manage a small taste of Sandra’s gelato, and it was absolutely sublime, confirming that Senor Sweets lives up to its name even beyond the savory menu. Our stomachs were content, and we felt refreshed, ready for our leisurely stroll back to the boat’s tenders after an unforgettable culinary exploration in Cabo. We managed to pack so much deliciousness into our very own gourmet excursion, proving that even a short visit can be packed with incredible tastes.
