Looking for a new easy way to prepare your green beans this holiday season? These rich delicious Roasted Parmesan Green Beans let the oven do all the work.
Green beans are a great source of vitamins A, C, and K. I like to cook them on a regular basis to try to keep my kids healthy during the school year when germs abound. My son calls these panko covered green beans “Green Fries.” I think McDonalds could benefit from adding these to their menu alongside your Big Mac and large coke.

At Ajpal, I add lots of tips in all of my recipes – because I am a home cook without any formal training, and I find I am more confident making dishes when I understand why it works, and what each ingredient means to the flavor of a recipe. My goal is for even the most beginner home cook to feel empowered in the kitchen.
How to Make Simple and Easy Roasted Parmesan Green Beans
Green beans are a staple at every holiday meal and a favorite in my family all year round. This super simple roasted parmesan green beans recipe is a go to in my home and is a nice way to give a little crunch to fresh green beans.
Parmesan Roasted Green Bean Ingredients
To make this recipe, you’ll need:
- Green beans – there are tons of varieties of green beans, feel free to use whatever kind you prefer. I typically use French green beans for this recipe.
- Olive Oil – the olive oil helps the green beans roast and not stick to the pan and it helps the breadcrumbs to stick to the beans. You can use whatever oil you prefer, if you use coconut oil make sure you heat it till it is a liquid before spreading it.
- Parmesan cheese – you can use shaved or shredded parmesan. Parmesan has a very salty nutty flavor that compliments the fresh green beans. You can substitute asiago if you prefer.
- Panko bread crumbs – I use panko breadcrumbs to soak up the moisture released from the green beans while they are baking. You can use Italian breadcrumbs or see FAQs for a gluten free substitution.
- Salt – I use a fine granular kosher sea salt. It draws out the natural flavor of the beans and breadcrumbs.
- Garlic powder – I love the punch that garlic gives to other food, I use garlic powder here since it coats the green beans well and doesnt give off additional moisture.
- Onion powder – onion powder goes well with garlic and adds a bit of sweetness to the beans.
Steps to Make Roasted Cheesy Green Beans
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, we will use the following method:

Prepare
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and toss evenly to coat

Spread
Spread the beans out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray.

Bake and Serve
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, stir them halfway through the baking to ensure even cooking. Let them cool a bit and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks to Perfect Parmesan Roasted Green Beans
Let your green beans have a bite. You may be tempted to cook the green beans until they are very soft but keeping a nice bite will give you the best result since they will release a lot of moisture if overcooked.
Don’t crowd the pan. If you are doubling this recipe for a holiday meal just pull out another pan and roast on two racks in the oven instead of crowding them all into one pan. These green beans need space between them for moisture to escape evenly.

Roasted Cheesy Green Beans FAQ’s
For a gluten free option, process a few tbsp of dry oatmeal in the blender until it has a flour-like consistency and use it in place of the breadcrumbs. The point of the bread crumbs is to soak up some moisture so don’t omit them completely.
Leftovers will keep for 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
One of my favorite ways of using leftover green beans is just adding them on top of your salad for a hearty healthy lunch.
