If you’ve never been to Bonefish Grill, you haven’t had their signature appetizer – the bang bang shrimp. Bang Bang Shrimp is a spicy, sweet, and perfect lightly fried shrimp that is irresistible and totally addictive – and just so happens to be totally easy to make at home in a fraction of the time it takes to go out to dinner!

Bang Bang Shrimp Ingredients

To Make This Bang Bang Shrimp Recipe, You’ll Need:

  • Mayonnaise (½ cup) – Creamy mayonnaise forms the rich, tangy base of the signature bang bang sauce.
  • Peanut oil (2 cups) – Neutral-flavored peanut oil is ideal for frying, giving the shrimp a perfectly crisp, golden exterior.
  • Shrimp (1 lb) – Juicy, tender shrimp are the star of the dish, soaking up the bold, creamy sauce in every bite.
  • Cornstarch (1/2-3/4 cup) – Light cornstarch coating creates an ultra-crispy crust that locks in moisture during frying.
  • Thai sweet chili sauce (¼ cup) – Sweet chili sauce adds a balance of sweetness and mild heat that defines the bang bang flavor.
  • Hot chili sauce (3 -5 drops) – A few drops of hot chili sauce bring a subtle kick that enhances the sauce without overpowering it.
  • Sesame seeds (1 tsp) – Nutty sesame seeds add a delicate crunch and a hint of toasted flavor as a garnish.
  • Red cabbage (1 tbsp) – Thinly sliced red cabbage adds a fresh, crisp contrast and vibrant color to the dish.
  • Scallions (1 tbsp) – Bright, mild scallions provide a pop of freshness and a gentle onion flavor to finish the dish.
