White Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Truffles
Strawberry Shortcake Truffles are a delightful, bite-sized treat that combine the classic flavors of strawberry shortcake into a small, portable dessert. They’re a fun and creative twist on the traditional strawberry shortcake, and they’re perfect for serving at parties, picnics, or just as a sweet treat to enjoy at home.
At the heart of these truffles is a mixture that often consists of crumbled shortcake or vanilla cake, fresh strawberries, and cream cheese. The strawberries provide a burst of fresh, fruity flavor, while the cream cheese gives a tangy richness that balances out the sweetness. The crumbled cake gives the truffles structure and introduces that comforting, nostalgic taste of a classic shortcake.
Once the mixture is formed into balls, the truffles are usually dipped in white chocolate, which adds a creamy sweetness and a nice contrast in texture to the soft, cakey center. The truffles can be finished off with a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs or a drizzle of strawberry syrup for extra flavor and a lovely presentation.
It’s worth noting that Strawberry Shortcake Truffles, like many truffle recipes, are quite adaptable. You can experiment with different types of cake for the base, use different types of chocolate for the coating, or even add additional flavors into the mix – a little bit of lemon zest or a splash of vanilla extract would both be wonderful additions.
They capture the essence of a beloved classic dessert, but in a new, exciting format. They’re sweet, creamy, and filled with the fresh flavor of strawberries – what’s not to love?

How to Make Strawberry Shortcake Truffles
To make this recipe, we will use the following ingredients:
- Crushed Golden Oreos (3 cups): Golden Oreos form the base of the truffles, providing a sweet, cookie crumb texture that balances well with the other ingredients. They also contribute to the ‘shortcake’ part of the flavor profile.
- Cream Cheese (8 ounces, room temperature): Cream cheese offers a smooth, creamy texture to the truffles and helps bind the ingredients together. Its slight tanginess helps to offset the sweetness of the Oreos and chocolate, giving the truffles a well-rounded flavor.
- Diced Strawberries (1 cup): Fresh strawberries provide a burst of fruity, tart sweetness that pairs perfectly with the other rich ingredients. They also contribute to the refreshing and juicy quality of the truffles.
- White Chocolate Chips (2 cups): Melted white chocolate forms the coating for these truffles, adding a sweet, creamy element that complements the fruitiness of the strawberries. It also gives the truffles a nice shell which contrasts well with the soft interior.
- Red Sprinkles (¼ cup): These add a fun, colorful element to the truffles and enhance their visual appeal. They can also add a slight sugary crunch to the exterior of the truffles.

Once we’ve gathered our ingredients, we will use the following process:
- In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand mixer to combine the crushed Oreos, cream cheese, and strawberries.
- Once the mixture is homogeneous, divide the batter into 15 balls. Place the balls on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper and allow them to chill in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, melt the white chocolate chips on 20 second intervals in the microwave until completely melted. Be sure to stir the chocolate after each interval.
- Use a fork to dip each truffle ball in the chocolate before placing them back on the cookie sheet and topping them with sprinkles.
- Allow the truffles to chill for an additional 30 minutes in the freezer.
- Serve and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Strawberry Shortcake Truffles
Oreo Consistency: Make sure your Golden Oreos are crushed into fine crumbs for a smoother truffle mixture. This can be achieved by using a food processor.
Room Temperature Cream Cheese: Using room temperature cream cheese will ensure that it blends smoothly with the other ingredients. Cold cream cheese may lead to lumps in your truffle mixture.
Dicing Strawberries: Dice your strawberries into very small pieces to ensure they blend well into the truffle mixture and make the truffles easier to shape.
Chilling the Truffle Mixture: Before shaping the truffles, chill the mixture in the refrigerator. This helps firm up the mixture and makes it easier to roll into balls.
Double Boiler for Melting Chocolate: Use a double boiler to melt your white chocolate chips. This method helps prevent the chocolate from burning and keeps it smooth and easy to work with.
Dipping Truffles: Use a fork to dip the truffle balls into the melted white chocolate. Allow any excess to drip off before placing them back onto your lined baking sheet.
Decorating: Apply your red sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet so they adhere properly. If the chocolate has already set, the sprinkles won’t stick.
Storing Truffles: Keep your truffles in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve them. This will help maintain their shape and keep them fresh.

FAQs
Yes, you can use regular Oreos, but keep in mind that this will change the flavor profile. Golden Oreos have a sweet, vanilla flavor that resembles shortcake, whereas regular Oreos have a distinct chocolate flavor.
Frozen strawberries can be used, but they should be fully thawed and any excess moisture should be removed. This is to prevent the truffle mixture from becoming too wet.
Strawberry Shortcake Truffles should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last for up to one week. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
Yes, you can use milk or dark chocolate, but this will change the color and flavor of the truffles. White chocolate pairs well with the strawberries and Golden Oreos to maintain the traditional strawberry shortcake flavor profile.
If you don’t have a food processor, you can place the Golden Oreos in a zip-top bag and use a rolling pin to crush them into fine crumbs.
Yes, you can make vegan or dairy-free adaptations. Use dairy-free cream cheese and a vegan sandwich cookie in place of the Golden Oreos. Ensure the white chocolate is also dairy-free or use a dairy-free alternative for coating, like a powdered sugar glaze.
If the truffle mixture is too soft, you may need to chill it for longer in the refrigerator. If it’s still too soft after additional chilling, you can mix in additional crushed Golden Oreos to help firm it up.
Yes, other berries like raspberries or blackberries could work well in this recipe, but strawberries provide the classic “strawberry shortcake” flavor. Other fruits may alter the flavor profile.

What to Serve With Strawberry Shortcake Truffles
Coffee or Tea: These rich truffles pair beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or tea. The bitterness of coffee or the astringency of tea can balance out the sweetness of the truffles.
Ice Cream: Serve your truffles alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly decadent treat. The cool, creamy ice cream contrasts nicely with the chewy truffles.
Fresh Fruit: A fresh fruit salad or a plate of sliced fruits can offer a refreshing counterpoint to these sweet, rich truffles.
Whipped Cream: Add a dollop of whipped cream to your serving plate. The creaminess and slight tang of whipped cream can help balance the sweetness of the truffles.
Cheese Board: If you’re serving the truffles as part of a larger dessert spread, consider including a small cheese board with a variety of cheeses. The savory, tangy flavors of the cheese can complement the sweet truffles nicely.
Champagne or Dessert Wine: If it’s a special occasion, consider serving the truffles with a glass of champagne or dessert wine. The effervescence and acidity can help cut through the sweetness of the truffles.
Chocolate Fondue: If you’re having a dessert party, a chocolate fondue can be a fun addition. Guests can dip the truffles in melted chocolate for an extra indulgent treat.

Notes
The first chilling period gives the truffle balls time to harden, which makes coating them in chocolate easier. The second chilling period gives the chocolate time to set up. These truffles can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months or in the fridge for up to 7 days. They are great both ways. The truffles do not become too hard when stored in the freezer. These truffles should not be stored on the counter because they do not use true tempered chocolate. When kept on the counter, the chocolate coating will become soft and start to melt. The sprinkles do not add much to the truffles aside from a fun pop of color. I found that fresh strawberries worked best in this recipe. The flavor is distributed much better compared to frozen diced strawberries. Finely diced strawberries will be better distributed throughout the mixture.
